This publication presents the shortlisted artists for the HUGO BOSS ASIA ART Award for Emerging Asian Artists 2017 and the accompanying exhibition at the Rockbund Art Museum. It features the work of four nominated artists: Li Ming, Tao Hui, Yu Ji, and Robert Zhao Renhui. The third edition of the HUGO BOSS ASIA ART Award has been achieved through the careful consideration of changes across localities and art communities in Greater China and Southeast Asia, developing new processes for the selection of artists as well as for producing the final exhibition. While the former two editions involved one large group of twelve jury members, the 2017 edition initiated a different process by connecting and networking with young curators, researchers, and artists fully engaged with emerging art projects in different Asian art contexts. These twelve nominators proposed names and contributed meaningful comments, positioning the artworks in their localities and extending to an international scope.
