Igor Grubić has been actively working as a multimedia artist from the beginning of the 1990s. His work includes photography, film, and site-specific interventions in public spaces. Since 2000 he is also a producer and author of documentaries, TV reports, and socially committed commercials.

Grubić’s project for the 58th Venice Biennale, Traces of Disappearing in Three Acts (2006–19), was thirteen years in the making. It consists of three interrelated photo essays and an animated film, set in a specially designed mise-en-scène. The project began in 2006 when the artist began documenting the transition Croatia was facing after the war, with a particular focus on the shift from socialism to capitalism, from a central, stated-planned system to a free market economy. It explores how this has affected changes in habitation, the urban fabric, public space, and social relations.
